Salt water hot tub systems, such as the Onzen™ Natural Salt Water Care System by Arctic Spas®, come very close to eliminating the need for traditional sanitizers. Salt water systems use low levels of salt dissolved in the water to generate sanitizing agents within the hot tub plumbing. This automated system of creating sanitizer can eliminate the use of traditional chlorine or bromine tablets and reduce the amount of time needed to maintain safe, clean hot tub water. Natural Hot Tub Chemicals – really?

There are dozens of products that claim to be natural hot tub chemicals, but many are not what they claim. Ozone, silver ions, copper ions, enzymes, hydrogen peroxide and hydroxyl radicals are just a few of these. Some of these substances can be effective hot tub sanitizers, but a lot depends on how they are used. The cost and amount needed also varies with each substance.
